Paint Your Pet — Watercolour Workshop 🐾🎨

We all know you have the cutest fur baby in the world, so why not spend an evening creating a watercolour painting of your beloved pal?

This fun, lighthearted workshop is designed to be completely beginner-friendly — yes, absolutely beginner-friendly! You'll explore loose watercolour painting techniques and learn how to create soft, airy and translucent brushstrokes while bringing your pet's personality to life on paper.

To make the experience relaxed and approachable, your pet's portrait will be pre-sketched for you before class. This means you can arrive, settle in and focus on the fun part: painting!

🐾 Before Your Workshop

Please email a clear photo of your pet to negrecia@rogers.com after registering.

Ideally, choose a portrait-style photo that clearly shows your pet's face. A well-lit, close-up image will give the artist the best reference and help us create a sketch that can comfortably be completed during the workshop.

Your image will be sent to the artist ahead of time and pre-sketched onto your watercolour board, ready for you when you arrive.

All you have to do is enjoy and paint!

About the Teacher

Negrecia D’Souza is the Calgary artist behind The Growing Studios, where she teaches reuse-based art, food, craft, and watercolour classes. Her Paint Your Pet workshops blend loose, joyful watercolour with simple step‑by‑step guidance so everyone can leave with a portrait that actually looks like their animal. Negrecia loves working with rescued and ‘imperfect’ materials, and her classes are relaxed, encouraging spaces where beginners and experienced painters are both welcome.

🎨 About the Workshop

Throughout the class, you'll explore loose watercolour techniques and learn how layering, water and pigment can create beautiful translucent washes and expressive brushstrokes.

Your instructor will guide you through colour selection, layering and painting techniques while helping you capture the character of your pet without worrying about creating a perfectly realistic portrait.

We'll also chat about how these loose watercolour techniques can be carried into your everyday artwork and other creative projects.

You'll leave with your own finished watercolour portrait of your fur baby and some new painting skills to keep experimenting with at home.

ALL LEVELS WELCOME. No previous painting experience required.

Please note: Your pet photo must be submitted ahead of the workshop so the artist has enough time to prepare your sketch.

Workshop Booking Policy

Thank you for registering for a workshop at The Botanist! We put a great deal of care into preparing each class, including purchasing materials and reserving your space.

Cancellations

• 7 days or more before your workshop: Eligible for a full refund.
• Less than 7 days before your workshop: Eligible for a transfer to another workshop date or store credit.
• 48 hours or less before your workshop: Non-refundable and not eligible for store credit or transfer, as materials have already been purchased and prepared.

No-Shows

Participants who do not attend their workshop without prior notice are not eligible for a refund, store credit or transfer.

Transfer Your Spot

Workshop registrations are 100% transferable. If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to send a friend or family member in your place. Please let us know before class so we can update our attendance list.

Workshop Cancellations by The Botanist

In the unlikely event that The Botanist needs to cancel or reschedule a workshop due to low enrolment, instructor illness, severe weather or unforeseen circumstances, you may choose a full refund, store credit or transfer to another workshop date.
