Orchids | Phrag. Elizabeth March
Orchids | Phrag. Elizabeth March
Botanical name: Phragmipedium ‘Elizabeth March’
Common name: Phrag. Elizabeth March Orchid
Kingdom: Plantae
Family: Orchidaceae
Genus: Phragmipedium
Origin: Hybrid (derived from Central & South American species)
Light:
Bright, indirect light. Can tolerate gentle morning or late-day sun, but avoid harsh direct light. Slightly brighter conditions will encourage blooming.
Water:
Keep consistently moist. Phragmipedium prefer more water than most orchids and should never fully dry out. These can even tolerate sitting in a shallow tray of water, especially during active growth. Use low-mineral water when possible (rainwater or distilled preferred).
Fertilizer:
With active growth (even in winter) we recommend using a fertilizer based for foliage plants like Bios Nutrients, Gaia green 444 or fish fertilizer.
Pet Safe:
Generally considered non-toxic to pets, however ingestion is not recommended. Keep out of reach of curious pets and children.
Additional Notes:
-
Enjoy moderate to high humidity
-
Use a moisture-retentive but well-draining mix (fine bark, perlite, sphagnum)
-
Do not allow to dry out — this is key for success
-
Repot every 1–2 years or when media begins to break down
-
Cooler to intermediate temperatures are preferred
-
Known for large, dramatic slipper-style blooms
