Orchids | Phalenopsis Taiwan Glamour 1972
Botanical name: Phalaenopsis 'Taiwan Glamour 1972'
Common name: Moth Orchid 'Taiwan Glamour 1972'
Kingdom: Plantae
Family: Orchidaceae
Genus: Phalaenopsis
Origin: Horticultural hybrid (developed through breeding programs in Taiwan; parent species native to Southeast Asia)
Light:
Thrives in bright, indirect light. Place near a north- or east-facing window, or provide filtered light if positioned in a sunnier location. Avoid direct sunlight, particularly in the afternoon, to prevent leaf scorching. This hybrid adapts well to artificial grow lights (12–14 hours/day).
Water:
Water when the top 1–2 inches (2.5–5 cm) of the growing medium are dry. Typically, this means watering once every 5–7 days in dry climates like Calgary. Ensure the container provides excellent drainage—Phalaenopsis roots are sensitive to excess moisture and stagnant conditions.
Fertilizer:
Use a specific orchid fertilizer such as Jack's Bloom Booster or Jack's Classic Orchid Food.
Alternatively, you may adopt a natural approach: Bios Plant Probiotics combined with their sulphur supplement is highly effective for epiphytic orchids. Adding yucca extract to your regimen improves moisture retention and enhances nutrient uptake—particularly important in Calgary’s low-humidity conditions.
Pet Friendly:
Pet safe. Phalaenopsis orchids are non-toxic to cats and dogs. However, it is recommended to keep plants out of reach to avoid mechanical damage from chewing or play.
