Orchids | Dendrobium Jenkinsii
Botanical name: Dendrobium jenkinsi
Common name: Often known as Jenkins’ Dendrobium or sometimes the “Bottlebrush Orchid.”
Kingdom: Plantae
Family: Orchidaceae
Genus: Dendrobium
Origin: Native to the eastern Himalayas and Southeast Asia, including regions of India, Bhutan, and Myanmar. It typically grows as a small epiphyte on tree trunks in cool to warm forests.
Light:
Dendrobium jenkinsi prefers bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct morning sunlight but should be protected from harsh midday sun. A spot near an east-facing window is often ideal, or use sheer curtains to diffuse the light.
Water:
This orchid has a seasonal growth cycle. During its active growth period in spring and summer, water thoroughly about once or twice a week, allowing the potting medium to almost dry out between waterings. In autumn and winter, as the plant enters dormancy, reduce watering significantly—water only enough to prevent the canes from shriveling.
