Brassocattleya Tetradip × Brassocattleya Morning Glory
Botanical name: Brassocattleya ‘Yu Young Star No. 1’
Common name: Brassocattleya Orchid
Kingdom: Plantae
Family: Orchidaceae
Genus: Brassocattleya
Origin: Hybrid (derived from South American species)
Light:
Bright, indirect light to bright light. Can handle some direct sun, especially morning or late afternoon. Strong light is important for healthy growth and blooming.
Water:
Allow the growing medium to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly, then let excess drain fully. Typically once a week, adjusting based on environment. Do not let roots sit in water.
Fertilizer:
With active growth (even in winter) we recommend using a fertilizer based for foliage plants like Bios Nutrients, Gaia green 444 or fish fertilizer.
Pet Safe:
Generally considered non-toxic to pets, however ingestion is not recommended. Keep out of reach of curious pets and children.
Additional Notes:
-
Prefers moderate humidity
-
Has pseudobulbs that store water, making it more drought-tolerant than some orchids
-
Use a chunky, well-draining orchid mix (bark, charcoal, perlite)
-
Repot every 1–2 years or when the medium breaks down
-
Benefits from good airflow
-
Known for fragrant, star-shaped blooms with a classic Cattleya influence
