Orchids need lots of air to roots hence the slits in the side of "orchid pots". This is a main aspect of plants that are epiphytes they do not like to grow in dense soil, they are often found on sides of trees in the wild. Can also be used for many plants and works best with mediums like moss, bark, etc.
