Fig Tree 1 Gallon
Fig Tree 1 Gallon
Botanical name: Ficus carica
Common name: Fig Tree
Kingdom: Plantae
Family: Moraceae
Genus: Ficus
Origin: Western Asia and the Mediterranean region
Light:
Fig trees prefer full sun, ideally receiving at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day. They thrive best when placed in a bright, open area if grown outdoors. If growing indoors or in containers, place the tree near a south- or west-facing window to ensure ample light.
Water:
Water young fig trees regularly to establish a strong root system, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Once established, fig trees are moderately drought-tolerant. Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering or poor drainage can lead to root rot. In containers, make sure the pot has drainage holes.
Fertilizer:
Feed fig trees with a balanced fertilizer (e.g., 10-10-10 NPK) during the growing season (spring and early summer). Over-fertilizing can encourage foliage at the expense of fruit production. Container-grown figs may need more frequent feeding (monthly), while in-ground trees can be fertilized 2–3 times per year. Avoid fertilizing in late summer or fall, as this can lead to tender new growth that is susceptible to frost.
