Common name: Song of India, Pleomele
Kingdom: Plantae
Family: Asparagaceae
Genus: Dracaena
Origin: Native to Madagascar, Mauritius, and other islands in the Indian Ocean
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Can adapt to medium light but variegation is strongest in brighter conditions.
Water: Allow the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between waterings. Avoid overwatering, as roots are prone to rot.
Fertilizer: With active growth (even in winter) we recommend using a fertilizer based for foliage plants like Bios Nutrients, Gaia Green 4-4-4, or fish fertilizer.
Pet Friendly: Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.
Song of India is one of the most striking Dracaenas, with its vibrant green leaves edged in golden yellow. Its natural shape often looks like a miniature tropical tree, making it a favorite for adding structure and drama indoors. Over time, older stems twist into sculptural forms, giving each plant its own personality.
