De Caen Mix Anemone (Corms)
Bright, bold, and joyfully classic.
De Caen Mix Anemones are known for their vibrant jewel-toned blooms — scarlet red, royal blue, crisp white, magenta, and violet — all centred with a dramatic dark eye. The petals are smooth and satiny, opening wide in sunshine and closing gently in cool evenings.
This heirloom-style strain of Anemone coronaria is beloved for its cheerful colour range and reliable performance in spring gardens and cutting beds.
Height: 10–16 inches

They feel both cottage-garden sweet and strikingly graphic.
How to Grow Carmel Pastel Anemones
Cool soil and patience create magic.
🌱 When to Plant
In colder climates like Alberta:
• Plant outdoors in early spring once soil is workable
• Or start in a cool greenhouse for earlier blooms
In mild climates, they can be fall planted for spring flowering.
🌰 Preparing the Corms
Anemone corms arrive hard and dry.
• Soak in room-temperature water for 3–4 hours before planting
• Do not oversoak (this can cause rot)
After soaking, they will plump up and feel textured.
🌿 Planting
• Plant 1–2 inches deep
• Space 4–6 inches apart
• It’s not critical which side faces up — they will sort themselves out
☀️ Light & Soil
• Full sun to light shade
• Well-draining soil is essential
• Rich, compost-amended beds are ideal
They dislike sitting in soggy soil.
💧 Watering
• Keep evenly moist during growth
• Avoid overwatering
• Reduce watering as foliage begins to yellow after flowering
🌸 Blooming
Expect blooms approximately 90 days after planting, depending on temperature. Cooler growing conditions produce stronger stems and richer colour.
🧺 After Flowering
• Allow foliage to die back naturally
• In colder climates, corms can be lifted and stored dry
• In well-drained beds, some gardeners experiment with leaving them in the ground, though success varies with winter moisture
