Strawberries | Multi Variety
Bare root strawberries sold in a stack. Each stack as 10 new plant babies that can be planted out. June bearing plants will set fruit at the same time making it good to do jams and preserves. Ever bearing will produce fruit throughout the season. Perennial.
Hecker Strawberries
Sweet, sun-warmed berries — all season long.
Hecker strawberries are an everbearing variety known for their exceptional flavour, vibrant red colour, and extended harvest season. They produce medium-sized berries with a classic strawberry sweetness and just the right balance of brightness.
Unlike June-bearing varieties that fruit once, Hecker strawberries produce multiple flushes from early summer into fall — making them a favourite for home gardeners who want steady, ongoing harvests.
Type: Everbearing
Harvest: Early summer through fall
Flavour: Sweet, classic, bright
Best for: Fresh eating, desserts, preserves
A generous little plant with a long season of reward.
How to Grow Hecker Strawberries
Sun, space, and steady moisture bring out their best.
🌱 When to Plant
Plant in spring once danger of frost has passed and soil is workable.
In Alberta, this is typically May.
☀️ Light
• Full sun (minimum 6–8 hours daily)
• More sun = sweeter fruit
🌿 Soil
• Well-draining, fertile soil
• Slightly acidic preferred (pH 5.5–6.5)
• Amend with compost before planting
Strawberries dislike heavy, waterlogged soil.
🌱 Planting
• Space plants 12–18 inches apart
• Keep crown (where leaves emerge) level with soil surface
• Do not bury crown
Mulch with straw to keep fruit clean and reduce weeds.
💧 Watering
• Keep evenly moist
• Avoid letting soil dry out during fruiting
• Water at soil level to reduce leaf disease
🍓 Harvesting
Pick berries when fully red for best flavour. Harvest regularly to encourage continued production.
✂️ Maintenance
• Remove runners if you want stronger fruit production
• Or allow some runners to root if you want plants to spread
• Fertilize lightly in early spring and after first harvest
❄️ Winter Care
In colder climates:
• Mulch heavily with straw after first hard frost
• Remove mulch in early spring
