Botanical name: Schenorchis scolopendria
Common name: Schenorchis orchid (no widely established common name)
Kingdom: Plantae
Family: Orchidaceae
Genus: Schenorchis
Origin: Southeast Asia, including regions of India, Sri Lanka, and Indochina
Light:
Schenorchis scolopendria thrives in bright, indirect light. It naturally grows in the understory of tropical forests where it receives filtered sunlight. Avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves and pseudobulbs. A position near an east-facing window or shaded south/west exposure is ideal.
Water:
This species prefers a consistent moisture level but must never sit in soggy conditions. Water thoroughly when the growing medium is nearly dry. In warmer months, watering 2–3 times per week may be necessary, while in cooler seasons, reduce to once per week or less. High humidity (60–80%) is essential, and misting or a humidity tray can help maintain these levels, especially indoors.
Fertilizer:
Feed with a balanced orchid fertilizer (such as 20-20-20) diluted to half strength every 2 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). In fall and winter, reduce feeding to once a month or suspend if the plant enters dormancy. Avoid over-fertilizing, as salts can build up and damage the roots.
